Making Connections in Your Design Community Can Lead to Unanticipated Results

April 11, 2008 | by Chad Covert

My life has never been predictable. If you asked me ten years ago where I saw myself in the future, I would have never guessed that I would be starting a creative recruiting company in Jacksonville, Florida. I first met my business partner, Dennis Eusebio, two years ago through my roommate at the time. A designer like myself, we set out to create a company that will change the way recruiting agencies do business.

Having dealt with other recruiting agencies and getting less than desirable results, I never thought that I would be starting my own recruiting company. But as an inventor/designer/entrepreneur, I’m always trying to improve the way things work in the world around me.

The Creative Kind started like any other company—with an idea to improve on an existing idea. We researched similar recruiting agencies nationwide for months and discovered how they work and how they approached things. What we found shocked us.

Most designers looking for employment were willing to take a 30-50% pay cut using most recruiting services. Businesses were getting flooded with poor quality candidates because of bad screening processes. Everyone was losing out, except for the head hunting agency. As designers and business owners, Dennis and I both didn’t like what we were seeing.

We then set forth and came up with ideas on how to not only run a successful business, but how we could help the entire design community benefit. We really felt—and still feel—that giving back is the most important aspect in how The Creative Kind would operate.

So, after many late nights, here we are.... The doors are open and we are ready to help designers and companies unite in mutually beneficial relationships.

The Creative Kind is a great idea guys.  Best of luck with this endeavor.  This has the potential of being a very useful destination for designers and businesses looking for capable and qualified designers.
