Typography is Key

May 23, 2008 | by Dennis Eusebio

We’ve been to our fare share of portfolio reviews and have seen countless amounts of portfolios over the last couple of months. While all the fundamentals of design are key to make a qualified designer, there is one core skill-set that serves as the biggest tell of a designer’s skill.

Typography

When I see a poorly laid out resume or business card, it makes my heart sink because 9 times out of 10 it means the rest of their portfolio is going to lackluster at best. Good typography is one of the last things to develop as designers work their way to becoming professionals. It can’t be faked or covered up. Its always apparent and always separates the men from the boys (or women from the girls).

Please new graduates and job seekers, take the time to obsess over your type on anything that has your name on it. Trust me, people will take notice.
